WHY DOES THIS WEBSITE EXIST?
The website idea came about after I saw a house in which I used to live was up
for sale. I was very tempted to pose as a buyer just to be nosey and have a
look around to see how much it had changed. However, having sold other
properties myself and knowing how tiresome it is to keep tidying up (especially
around two small children!) to allow prospective purchasers to view, I decided
not to book the appointment to satisfy my curiosity. Hopefully, other people
are as nosey as I felt and wish that they can take a look inside their old
homes – or indeed around anyone else’s if they are really curious!!!
ARE YOU GOING TO ALLOW OTHERS USERS TO SEE MY PERSONAL
REGISTRATION DETAILS?
No member or non-registered users of the site can have access to your email
address or name. However if and ONLY IF you consent, this data could be shared
with other companies. Please see our
Privacy Policy
for full details.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE HOUSE I AM SEARCHING FOR DOES NOT FEATURE
ON THE SITE?
There is a facility on the site after a failed search to request Home Curiosity
administration personnel to send a conventional letter by post to the current
occupiers at the address in which you are interested. This will invite them to
upload photographs of that property to the Home Curiosity site.
WHY DO YOU NEED MY E-MAIL ADDRESS WHEN I REGISTER?
This enables us to send you an e-mail so that we can satisfy ourselves that
only genuine people with valid e-mail addresses are trying to use the site.
Also, provided that you don’t object, it allows us to communicate any changes,
offers or competitions, etc that we may feature through Home Curiosity.
WHAT PROPERTIES CAN I ADD TO THE SITE?
You may add addresses and photographs of the properties that you either live in
now or have lived in previously showing the interior as it was then. Imagine
what fun it would be to see how a home’s interior décor has changed through the
years!
WHAT SORT OF PHOTOGRAPHS CAN I ADD?
Obviously, no photograph can contain any obscene material and if Home Curiosity
deem a photograph to be of such a nature it will be removed from the site and
the sender is also extremely likey to have any future contact with the site
terminated (see our
Terms and Conditions
for more details).
We do not advise you to submit photographs containing children , high value
consumer goods or security systems. We recommend that you submit a photograph
of the front exterior of the home and of the garden if there is a one. Also we
recommend photographs of the lounge and kitchen and thereafter any interior
shots that you feel you want to add. It really is up to you. You may add a
maximum of eight photographs in total – but if you change your mind about what
you have added you can swap your photographs for others or delete them at any
time.
TECHNICAL PHOTOGRAPH INFORMATION
The photographs must be in JPG format.
WHY DO SOME THUMBNAILS APPEAR BIGGER THAN OTHERS?
All thumbnails will be of the same height but those that are in 'landscape'
orientation will be wider.
WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM SIZE IMAGE I CAN UPLOAD?
You can upload photographs that you have taken with a digital camera directly
without editing them at all. Often camera images are around 200 Kilobytes in
size - this is fine. The website will resize them automatically. It is best not
to upload very large photos, say more than 500 Kilobytes, though as they will
take a long time to be processed by the website.
IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO SHRINK AN IMAGE IF IT IS TOO
BIG?
Yes, you can use your photograph editing software that came with your camera.
Scaling the photo to 50% of its original size should do the trick.
CAN I LOAD ALL MY IMAGES AT ONCE OR SHOULD I LOAD THEM
INDIVIDUALLY?
If your photos are large - about 500 Kilobytes each - then it is best to upload
them 1 at a time. As a rough guide uploading 4 photos of around 200 Kilobytes
each may take about 15 minutes on a non-broadband connection.
WHY DON’T THE THUMBNAILS APPEAR ON THE PROPERTRY PAGE AFTER I
HAVE UPLOADED SOME IMAGES?
Some times browsers keep old versions of pages that you have been to so that
they can display them faster if you go there again. To force the new version of
a page to appear press and hold down the 'Ctrl' button on the keyboard and then
click the browser's refresh icon in its toolbar. That should make the photos
you have just uploaded appear.
